Paper Dispenser

The wrapping paper will be dispensed and cut at the necessary length to wrap our box based on the simple design principles of a standard paper cutter commonly found in an arts and crafts store. With a blade free to move on a lateral cutting axis, our cutting mechanism works using a spur/gear system and two motors. One motor is programmed to dispense the appropriate amount of paper. The other motor moves the cutting blade.

Folding Plates

The unwrapped box will be pushed through a series of angled plates to fold the wrapping paper surrounding the box. The first set of angled plates will create a top and bottom flap. The second set of plates will fold the top and bottom flaps so that they are pressed against the box and ready for taping.

Pushing Mechanism

The pushing mechanism that will guide the box through the folding plates will be comprised of a rack and pinion powered by a motor. At the end of the rack and pinion, there is a piece that distributes the pushing force throughout the surface of the box so that it is pushed through the folding plates evenly.

Box Stopper

The box stopper mechanism will ensure that the box does not move forward when the front part of the mechanism pushes the first to flaps. It will recede below the mechanism when the box is ready to be pushed by the pusher mechanism through the second section of folding plates. The box stopper will be powered by a servo motor that rotates back and forth at a specific angle to stop and then recede.
